Beyond The Specs

What the table doesn’t tell you.

Specs are starting points. Here’s what matters when you’re using one of these every morning in a Singapore condo.

We spent three years engineering the Vitalis 3 piping system before we were willing to ship. If we couldn’t solve what we found below, we wouldn’t have launched.

The part that fails first

73% of cold plunge systems fail within 18 months. The cause is almost always the same: the pump.

Most systems use 16mm internal piping — an industry standard borrowed from pool equipment. Narrow piping means higher water pressure. Higher pressure means faster mineral buildup, more stress on seals, and — in Singapore’s humidity — accelerated biofilm growth inside the lines. The pump works harder to push water through an increasingly restricted path. Eventually, it gives up.

When that happens, the repair typically involves the entire chiller unit. In most systems, the pump isn’t designed to be accessed independently. The unit goes back to the manufacturer, or it goes in the bin.

The Vitalis uses 32mm piping — double the standard. Four times the cross-sectional flow area. Lower pressure. Less buildup. Less stress on every component downstream.

It also uses a Modular Flow Pump. If the pump ever needs servicing after years of daily use, it’s field-replaceable. Swap the module. Keep the system. You don’t throw away your espresso machine because the pump needs replacing.

This is the kind of difference that doesn’t show up in a comparison table. It shows up at month eighteen.

Noise at 5:48am

Most brands don’t publish noise specs. In a detached house, this doesn’t matter. In a Singapore condo — where your chiller sits metres from a shared wall — it matters a great deal.

The Vitalis runs at 53 dB. For reference, a normal conversation is 60 dB. A difference of 10 dB is roughly a perceived doubling in loudness.

The Tundra Yukon does not publish noise levels. The Hydragun Supertub does not publish noise levels. Independent reviews describe the Supertub as “one of the noisiest chillers tested” and “loud enough to echo in a small room.”

If a brand doesn’t publish its dB rating, ask for it before you buy.

Water maintenance: the reason people quit

Every system needs water maintenance. This is the number one reason people abandon their cold plunge practice after the first month.

Both Tundra and Hydragun use 20-micron filtration with ozone — the industry baseline. Water changes depend on usage but are typically required every 3-4 weeks.

The Vitalis uses the Sojourne water care system — a purpose-built line of sanitisers, oxidisers, and filtration designed specifically for cold plunge environments. The 3-Step Spa Care subscription delivers what you need on schedule. Less guesswork. Longer water life.

The less you have to think about maintenance, the more likely you are to still be in the water six months from now.

What happens after you buy

All three brands have Singapore presence. The difference is what support looks like after month one.

Tundra offers an in-house support team with a 12-month warranty. Hydragun has a Singapore warehouse with white-glove setup and a 24-month warranty.

The Vitalis 3 comes with 24 months of warranty and an in-house concierge team that handles installation, setup, and ongoing support. Beyond that:

Sojourne Spa Care

Water care delivered on schedule. Everything you need, nothing you don’t.

Member Care+

Annual maintenance plan. Scheduled servicing. Priority support.

Relocation Service

Moving? We disconnect, transport, and reinstall. Handled like it’s ours.

A cold plunge is a daily practice. The support should match.

Price Context

What you’re actually paying for.

The Tundra Yukon starts at S$5,149 with a separate 1.0HP Borealis chiller. Currently on pre-order.

The Hydragun Supertub starts at S$4,999 with a 0.8HP chiller and accessories kit. Regular promotions bring it to ~S$4,499.

The Vitalis 3 Professional is S$3,650 — integrated system, 32mm piping, modular pump, white-glove delivery, and full installation included.

The lowest starting price. The only modular pump. The only oversized piping. That’s not a coincidence. It’s a decision about where to put the margin and where to put the engineering.
